Albany Police say protect your Christmas gifts with R-E-D

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police urge South Georgians to safeguard your Christmas gifts from thieves.

They call the program RED.

R for record your serial and identification numbers on your electronic gifts.
E stands for Engrave those gifts with an identifying mark.
And D, Document your gifts by taking photographs.

That way if an item is stolen, you can identify your property if it's recovered.

Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks said "We know people are going to get a lot of large, high ticket items for Christmas.  So go ahead when you open your gifts, go ahead and make note of the serial numbers."

Albany Police will engrave your items for free.  You can call them after Christmas at 431-2100 to make an appointment.
