ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany business owner has been recognized for his support of law enforcement.
Tom Gieryic started the "Back the Blue" campaign after hearing about the deputy who was shot in Texas while pumping gas.
His idea took off, and you can now see "Back the Blue" signs all over town.
Gieryic says workers from law enforcement agencies all over South Georgia have stopped by to thank him.
The Albany Police Department recognized Gieryic as Citizen of the Year Tuesday.
"We are just going to keep doing what we are doing. If we keep getting people wanting signs we will keep ordering them in as long as there is a need for them," Gieryic said.
So far, he has sold about 1,400 signs plus t-shirts and hats.
