More travelers take advantage of cheap gas

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Studies show that drivers are spending less at the pump for year-end travels. GasBuddy says customers will save over a billion dollars on gas for travels--  compared to last year.

The company's annual holiday travel survey says that 88% of those heading out of town will be doing so by car,  with a majority 66% driving at least two-hundred miles round trip.

They say gas prices during the holidays have not been this cheap since 2008 during the Great Recession.

Possibly one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, 33% will be actually traveling for the Christmas holiday.

Of those traveling, 56%plan to drive, while the other 39% plans to fly to their destinations.

According to a TripAdvisor survey of over 2,000 participants, 55% are traveling to see family, while 16% plans to see friends.

29% say they always travel for the December holidays. Eight percent are traveling because gasoline prices are lower this month.
