With many families getting ready to travel for the Christmas holidays, the Georgia State Patrol reminding everyone to be careful on the busy roads that are likely going to also be wet.

A high number of travelers are predicted to be on the roads during the holiday period, and drivers need to be alert.

There are a few things they want you to remember to help you have a safe trip.

"We'd like for them to plan their route out, best way to get there. Be sure that their vehicle is serviced. Make sure they get the proper rest before they get on the highway. And then after they get on the highway they need to obey all the speed limit signs, obey all the traffic rules and regulations," said Cpl. Andrew Mckenzie, of the GSP.

Troopers say if you must use your cell phone while driving, try to get off the roadways FIRST.
