ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Georgia State Patrol Troopers from Albany Post 40 came through in a big way for the Toys For Tots Program.
The Troopers from Albany collected more than 1,100 toys for Toys for Tots to make sure children in need get a Christmas toy under their tree.
This afternoon the Marine Corps Reservists loaded up the boxes and boxes of toys and gifts, to load up Santa's sleigh. The troopers say South Georgians were very generous this year, and the Marines say this donations will help them make their goal of presents for 5,000 children.
"We couldn't have done it without the community. Their support. The money donations, and people giving toys," said Sgt. Shawn Urquhart of the Georgia State Patrol.
"We had a high goal. And a lot of demands. And I think we reached the goals and reached the demands with the help of all the community," said Gunnery Sgt. Jimmy T. Smith of the USMC.
This is the 8th year that the troopers at Albany Post 30 have collected toys for Toys For Tots.
