DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - Four people will split the profits of a winning ticket worth $1 million sold last week in Coffee County.
Gate Food Post #0229, located on Bowens Mill Road S.E. in Douglas, sold a winning $1,000,000 Jackpot instant ticket, a Georgia Lottery game, worth the top prize.
The winners, who will share the prize, are Orville and Janice Carter of Douglas; Keven Johnson of Douglas; and Lorrinda Johnson of Broxton.
They claimed the prize Dec. 18 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program.
More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
