PEARSON, GA (WALB) - Four people were arrested after a shooting in a Pearson hotel that put an innocent man in critical condition.
Pearson police officers were dispatched to the Ballenger Motel on December 17 in response to a shooting.
Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 6:00 p.m. and observed a Hispanic male later identified as Juan Diaz Mendez, 30, with an apparent gunshot wound. Mendez was then transported to Douglas Regional Medical Center for treatment where he was later transported to a hospital in Savannah Georgia due to the extent of his injuries.
Investigators with the Pearson Police Department, Atkinson County Sheriff's Office and GBI then began an investigation where it was determined that Juan Mendez had been shot over a $65 cell phone that had been sold to another Hispanic male that lived at the motel.
Mendez was only an innocent bystander and had nothing to do with the phone.
The four individuals arrested were 19-year-old Victor Keyshawn Moten, 23-year-old Rashad Marquis Flowers, 20-year-old Mashawn Rashad Jones, and the fourth was listed as a juvenile.
The suspects were charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Criminal Attempt of Murder.
The investigation is still ongoing. If you have any information regarding the incident, you are asked to call Investigator Josh Taylor with the Pearson Police Department at (912) 422-7411.
Police officials would also like to thank all agencies that were involved, and the community for all their assistance in apprehending the suspects involved.
