ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

In a release issued on Friday by Darton State, they announced that two of their teams will survive the upcoming merger with Albany State University.

Darton officials said that women's soccer and men's golf will both remain competitive after Darton completes consolidation with Albany State.

Interim Athletics Director Lea Henry said that student athletes will have the opportunity to keep their athletic scholarships.

There will be decisions made to ensure athletes will be taken care of.

"Our current situation will have sophomores on our roster that already committed to other institutions," said Henry. "So it will play out and it will play out in a positive manner that every student athlete is taken care of."

Henry also adds that there will be further discussion of the athletic department's future after the Christmas holiday.
