ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Library System invested nearly $5 million to help an Albany library expand.
The investment qualified them to apply for a $2 million grant from the state.
The money will go to renovating nearly 11,000 square feet of unused space at the northwest branch.
Library officials said that the project wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for high demand from the public.
"It's really motivating and it really makes us really want to go ahead and get this done. and it's just fortunate that we have all this extra space in the northwest facility to be able to accommodate these expansions," said Pauline Abidde the Dougherty County Public Library Director
Officials plan to add room for technology, expand the genealogy department, make space for community events and add children's programs.
