THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Not everyone is in the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately, crime often increases this time of year. Police want you to be cautious while you're out shopping.

They say you should always lock your car doors and avoid leaving your purchases in plain sight. Police also say that women should keep their purses close to them and secured at all times.

"Make sure if you place it in a buggy or a shopping cart make sure you have a visual of that item never go no farther than 2 or 3 feet away from it," said Captain Maurice Holmes.

Thomasville Police say they're increasing patrols downtown and in other busy retail area. They urge you to call them if you see any suspicious activity.
