MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, GA (WALB) -

The Department of Homeland Security has taken over the investigation in the search for two missing Afghan trainees who disappeared from Moody Air Force Base, officials said Friday.

The men, identified by NBC News as Mirwais Kohistani and Shirzad Ruhullah, were last seen on Dec. 4, and reported missing on Dec. 8 after they did not report for duty.

Air Force and Defense officials said there was no reason to believe either of the two posed any kind of threat, and had been screened before entering the U.S.

They had been training with the 81st Fighter Squadron since February and scheduled to graduate at the end of December.
