BLAKELY, GA (WALB) - Faster internet service is coming to Blakely.
Wednesday night, the Blakely city council and Early County Commission signed an agreement with the South Georgia Regional Information Technology Authority.
SGRITA's fiber network is based in Blakely and the Mayor wants residents to be able to use it.
"If there's a way that we can utilize what's there to offer to our citizens better and more high speed internet for instance for our businesses to expand our economic development capabilities in our area," said Anthony Howard, Mayor of Blakely.
SGRITA has a similar agreement with Albany and Mayor Howard says he appreciates Albany for providing a base example with the authority.
