ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After numerous failed efforts to renovate an old downtown theater, leaders now plan to demolish it.
The Downtown Manager, Latoya Cutts said that the Albany Theater isn't safe.
The old arcade out front on Jackson Street will be saved but the plan is to tear down the theater itself, hoping it will help attract more development.
"Everything that we do it's always looking at public private partnerships. The city does not want be in the business of trying to do whatever all the development that needs to happen into downtown and so we really want to do what's necessary to be able to attract private developers," said Cutts.
The city hopes to accept bids for the project around the first of the year.
