ASU ball player arrested for marijuana

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State University Wide Receiver Jessie Atkins was arrested and charged with distributing marijuana Monday.

The 22 year old Atkins was driving a car stopped by ADDU officers just before 5:00 PM in the 200 block of Radium Springs Road,  for not having on a seat belt.

Officers smelled the odor of marijuana, and searched his car. They found eight grams of marijuana individually bagged up inside a Crown Royal bag in the console.

He was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a felony, drug related objects, and a seat belt violation.

Atkins, a senior wide receiver for the Rams, from Camilla and Mitchell County High School, made his first appearance this morning and released on $100 bond.

Albany State Police officials say Atkins will have to face a judiciary hearing from the school.
