South Georgia rivals cheer each other on at state championship

BEN HILL CO., GA (WALB) -

Two South Georgia high school rivals are cheering for each other after both teams made it to the state championship.

The Irwin County Indians and the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes have punched their tickets to the Georgia Dome, but won't play each other.

Irwin County will take on Clinch County at 1 pm Friday. Then Fitzgerald will take on Pace Academy at 1 pm Saturday.

That means folks in Ben Hill County and Irwin County will be able to cheer each other on.

It's the first time that both schools have made it to the state championship.
