ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Dougherty High School had split a doubleheader with Bainbridge Saturday night.
Between the boy's and girl's games, Dougherty was welcomed into the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll.
Due to the former Trojan, Donald Laster, going on to win Super Bowl XVII in 1983.
The NFL presented the school with a golden football, and the high school program will have the opportunity to apply for a grant from the NFL foundation to fund the football team.
The former offensive tackle was inducted into the Albany sports hall of fame in 2004. He was honored to present the school with the Wilson football.
"I never saw this coming when I was doing my athletic career here at Dougherty high," said Laster who also played basketball for the Trojans. "But I like to try and encourage young people to just let them know, regardless of where you started, there's always a plan for you if you stay faithful to that plan. I was able to do that, and God blessed me with that wonderful opportunity."
As for the basketball games, the boys beat Bainbridge 78-75, and in the girls game Lady Bearcats routed the Lady Trojans 62-23.
