CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Folks in Cordele say they're fed up with the amount of crime in their community, after a convenience store was robbed at gunpoint twice in one week.

Cordele Police are now on the lookout for the gunman who stole hundreds of dollars from the S&S convenience store Friday morning.

The same store was robbed at gunpoint last Saturday.

Police said they have increased patrols in that area.

One sergeant said he drove through the S&S parking lot three times before the armed robbery Friday morning.

Lois Carter lives in the neighborhood behind the convenience store and said she is concerned about the recent robberies.

"It needs to be stopped," she said.  "People work too hard for what they got. For people to just come in and rob like that?  It's ridiculous."

Police said a man came into the store just before 9 a.m. with a silver pistol in hand, demanding money.

Sergeant Jeremy Taylor with the Cordele Police Department said, "He entered with his face covered with a red mask, white t-shirt, he was wearing white gloves and dark colored pants."

Police said the robber got away with around $500.

Now investigators are trying to determine if the same guy is responsible for last week's robbery.

"We see a spike every year," said Sgt. Taylor.  "We do what we can to control it by increasing patrols and a little more vigilance, but it's an unfortunate situation that we see every year."
