JACKSONVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has reported that the Jacksonville police chief and his wife have been arrested.
According to reports, Police Chief Charles Briley and his wife Ashley Briley, who is a certified Georgia police officer, were arrested in Telfair Co. in connection to an alleged theft.
GBI says that sometime between June 1st and August 31st, the Brileys allegedly stole a newspaper collection box to use as a well cover.
The collection box was the property of a community service organization.
It is also reported that the Brileys allegedly lied to a GBI agent during the investigation.
Both Charles and Ashley are charged with one count of theft by taking, one felony count of false statements and writings and one felony count of violation of oath by public officer.
