ALBANY, GA (WALB) - We're entering the time of year when it's most common for cars to collide with deer in south Georgia.

According to State Farm Insurance, the odds of a driver hitting a deer in Georgia are one out of 128.

State Farm Agent Tim Thomas said drivers should be on high alert during the early morning hours and between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

He said steps you take before a possible collision are most important.

"I would say before you hit the deer, check your policy to see if you have a coverage called 'comprehensive coverage.'  That's what pays for hitting a deer. If you swerve to miss the deer, and you miss it, and you don't hit the deer, that's paid under your collision."

Thomas suggests you check with your insurance company to review your coverage.
