ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dozens of people who have served their community were honored Tuesday at the SOWEGA Council on Aging annual Christmas recognition luncheon.
Hundreds of volunteers that lend a hand around the community were honored with a meal, program, and a special recognition.
About 60 veterans that volunteer were also recognized with a pinning ceremony.
Organizers say the volunteers get so much from giving.
"Volunteerism is not only good for the individual, but for the community," said Executive Director Kay Hind. "We actually save the community thousands and thousands of dollars, because they do the work, and you don't have to hire somebody."
If you'd like to volunteer, you need to be at least 55 years old.
Folks can sign up at the Kay H. Hind Senior Life Enrichment Center.
