MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The holiday season means holiday meals and, often, poor health choices.

Wellness Directors at the Moultrie YMCA often see people this time of year who feel guilty for over-indulging.  But not to worry.  They say they're Team Lean competition will put you on track to make 2016 a happier and healthier year.

Thanksgiving may be over, but the guilt you may feel from those extra helpings of pie is not going away.

And folks here at the Moultrie YMCA say there's nothing better than sweating that holiday guilt out.

"I'll tell you, we're an obese state, we're an obese nation in a lot of ways.  We certainly want to help people lose that weight. We certainly want to help motivate them in that way," said Trey Duncan.

So today, registration begins for the community wide Team Lean competition.  A 10-week weight loss competition providing support and accountability for folks with a goal.

"I think people don't realize you can't change a habit in two or three weeks. It's something you have to stick with," said Ashton Eunice.

Every week, participants weigh in, tracking their progress and competing with other teams and individuals for cash prizes.

"You need to exercise for the rest of your life, whether you're 20 or 80.  So you might as well do it and learn how to do it right," said Duncan.

Wellness directors provide guidance for participants, ages 12 and up.  And this year, they hope to surpass last year's total of 2,014 pounds lost.

"People are going to end up being happier and healthier if they can take it beyond just the ten weeks," said Eunice.

You have from now until January seventh to register for Team Lean. Contact  the Moultrie YMCA at 985-1154.
