AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The fire department is helping folks stay safe this holiday season by spraying their Christmas trees.
Firefighters began spraying Christmas trees Thanksgiving Day with a mixture of borax, Epson salt, and water to reduce fire danger.
The department has been doing this for residents for several years now. One spray will last the rest of the season, and it's free.
"It's very important to us, to the fire department because it slows down the process if the live tree were to catch fire," said Americus Fire Chief Allen Erkhart.
You can take your Christmas tree by the main fire station in downtown Americus any time between now and Christmas.
