VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Police said one man was in custody in connection to a rape that happened in downtown Valdosta.

Investigators said they arrested 55-year-old John Davis after receiving a tip from the public.

Davis has not yet been charged.

According to a report, Valdosta Police believe he is the suspect who grabbed a woman, held her at knife point, took money from her, then sexually assaulted her before running away.

The incident happened a little after 6 a.m. in the downtown area of Valdosta on November 19.

Officials said the woman was walking to work after parking her car in the Lowndes County Tag Office parking lot.

Detectives will seek warrants against Davis on Tuesday.

"I know there has been a lot of concerns by the community regarding this incident, but I am very proud of the tenacity of our officers and detectives who worked non-stop until the offender was taken into custody," said Chief Brian Childress.
