BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) -

Brooks County citizens came together to support a fire victim who lost everything when her apartment building burned down.

A couple hundred people participated in a flag football game in Quitman to raise money for the family. Their old apartment building in Thomasville caught fire on Thanksgiving morning.

Those in attendance donated $5 and also dropped off clothes, shoes, and food.

"When you got on food on the table for Thanksgiving and you lose all your presents, your Christmas tree and everything. Now these people are living out of a hotel. We can't let that happen," said firefighter Eric Peak.

Peak said their goal was to raise $1,000. He believes they surpassed that for the night.
