Over $14,000 found in drug arrest

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit is looking into an arrest where pounds of marijuana and over $14,000 in cash was found.

While standing outside a vacant house at about 3.p.m. in the 1200 block of Harding Street, Officer Nakia Ellis smelled marijuana coming from a car that was traveling past her and Officer N. Sanchez. From there, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver parked in a driveway and attempted to walk away from the vehicle. 

While searching the vehicle, marijuana and a handgun was found underneath the seat. The driver of the vehicle was then taken into custody and searched. 

The officers found more marijuana and a large sum of money on the driver. After securing the him and his two other passengers, they continued their search of the vehicle. 

Two bundles of cash was found inside the glove compartment. Two duffel bags of marijuana were found inside the trunk, adding up to about 5 pounds total.

The driver is charged with Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm.

The ADDU was called to take over the scene.
