MACON, GA (WALB) -

Valwood High school defeated Deerfield Windsor 28-26. The comeback victory gave the Valiants the GISA Region AAA state title.

This is the first state championship for Valwood in the region, and the 5th for the football team all time.

"Our kids found a way to get it done," said Ashley Henderson, Valwood head coach. "For the last four weeks of the season, we found a way to make it happen. we found a way to win this football game, so we're going to go in there and celebrate it tonight."

"We played them and it really humbled us," said senior Valwood quarterback Jacob Parker. "We saw that we're going to really have to fight and work hard during practice to win these big games. and finally it paid off."

Deerfield defeated Valwood earlier in the season, but after a wide-left field goal from 39 yards out, the Knights fell short in Macon.

"It was a great football game," said Allen Lowe, DWS head coach. "I just hate we came up on the short end of it, but that's the way it goes. that's why you play the game."
