ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany apartment was destroyed in a fire earlier Thursday morning.

Albany Fire Officials say an apartment in the 17 hundred block of West Broad Avenue caught fire in the kitchen just after 11:00 Thursday morning.
Officials say one person was in the home when the fire started, but was able to get out safely.
A neighbor who called 911 says smoke was everywhere.

"I seen it was a light smoke at first, so I stepped out in the yard and I called the Fire Department,” said Alton Brown, neighbor. “When the fire department got here it was already engulfed in flames. Smoke was coming from everywhere, the whole street was smoked up, all downhill."

Fire officials say no one was hurt.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
