City Council members and County Commissioners voted last night to shut down the Decatur County maintenance shop for public safety vehicles. Now city workers will be responsible for both city and county motor vehicles.
Officials say they think that by merging the two maintenance shops it will help save tax money.
"For the city and the county to merge their shops, we can put two shops together and save all of Decatur County residents tax dollars and that's what this is all about is saving tax dollars," said Pete Stephens Decatur County Board Commissioner
Officials say they won't be hiring additional city workers to do the job and they say its a task they can handle.
