CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Cordele police are preparing for a busy week, as travelers hit the road with Thanksgiving plans.

Many folks will be passing through the city as they head to their vacation spots and police say they will have more patrols as a result. They're also gearing up for black Friday shoppers, with many stores planning to open their doors on Thanksgiving Day.

"Naturally we've asked our officers to be a little bit more vigilant on the walk-throughs of business, get out of their cars, go into the businesses, check on them, stay visible in the areas," said Cordele PD Sgt. Jeremy Taylor.

AAA expects nearly 50 million folks to hit the road this week, the most since 2008.
