CRISP CO., GA (WALB) -

According to officials, two armed masked men entered a home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in Crisp County.

About half an hour later 911 received a call that someone had been shot at 3994 Old Penia Road.

40-year-old Geoffrey Jones was taken to the Crisp Regional Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Jones was not home when the two men entered the residence but arrived shortly after.

Sheriff Billy Hancock said Jones walked in on the suspects and started arguing with them before getting shot. He said that they are just trying to piece together the time line.

The suspects stole a vehicle from the home and abandoned it a few miles from the residence. Investigators believe that the men and Jones may have known each other.

"You got a lot of things that happen in a quick short time span and that's what we're trying to figure out today," said Sheriff Hancock. "We're trying to figure out the exact time span of what happened, when, and how it happened.

The case is currently under investigation by the Crisp County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Community Supervision and the Cordele District Attorney's Office.
