ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

First Monumental Faith Ministries kicked off their winter awareness program to educate the community on winter safety.

The Albany fire department discussed important issues such as carbon monoxide, fire place safety, and candles.

One of the organizers, who is a nurse practitioner, said she hoped the event would prevent accidents and tragedies during the colder months.

"I see people losing their moms their dads their brothers their sisters. And this is anything that we can do to prevent that..I wanted to step up to the plate and do it," said organizer Faith Causbey.

The program will be running through February. As a part of the program, they are also taking in donations for space heaters and blankets for those in need.
