Family of five displaced from home after fire

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta fire units responded to a fire that happened on Saturday at approximately 2:01 a.m. on the 400 block of La Forrest Street. Officials arrived to find the blaze starting from the right corner of the home.

It took about 13 firemen and five trucks to combat the flames. The first crew began extinguishing from the front of the building.

Roughly 40 percent of the home was severely burned, totaling up to around $55,000 in damages.

The five occupants in the home were displaced after the incident, but they are now being assisted by the Red Cross.

No fire personnel were injured at the scene. The cause of the fire was discovered to be electrical and started from a bedroom in the home.
