McRae, GA (WALB) -

A Thomas County escaped prisoner and his accomplice have been captured in Telfair County.

According to Sheriff Chris Steverson, Joshua Fountain, who recently escaped from Thomas County State Prison has been captured in Telfair County. Fountain along with another inmate, James Waldren, escaped from a boat ramp road trash collection site late Tuesday morning.

Local and state law enforcers, assisted by the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, and U.S. Marshals Service Task Forces from Macon and Tallahassee Florida have worked around the clock in their efforts to find the escapees.

Sheriff Steverson says that his office as well as the McRae-Helena Police Deptartment had been notified of the duo's escape and both agencies were closely monitoring contacts Fountain was known to have the area.

The Sheriff said he was contacted Friday November 20th, by an alert citizen of a suspicious individual matching the description of Fountain, a vehicle description, and the direction of travel was given.

The Sheriff and several deputies immediately began searching for the suspect vehicle and soon located it as the occupants attempted to leave the area. Deputies were able to box in the vehicle and Fountain along with a white female accomplice was taken into custody.

Deputies transported Fountain to the Telfair State Prison in McRae-Helena, and his accomplice, 24-year-old Anna Fountain Lockett, who is now being held in the Telfair County Jail where she will face charges related to harboring a fugitive.

Sheriff Chris Steverson thanks the concerned citizens as well as the McRae-Helena Police Department for their invaluable assistance in the capture, and expressed his thankfulness that this dangerous convict has been quickly returned to a prison cell.

Investigators continue searching for Waldren, who was serving time for Burglary.

Georgia Department of Corrections online records indicate Fountain was serving 10 years in prison for robbery by force.
