ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard's Coalition for Economic Development hosted a forum this afternoon focusing in the importance of the Marine Corps Logistics Base to our economy.
More than 5,000 people work on the base which has an annual impact of $1.6-billion.
Colonel James Carroll, who took command in May, says MCLB is proud to be a partner with the community.
'There's no other place that I've been that really welcomes this military like Albany and all of Southwest Georgia," said Colonel James Carroll, MCLB Commanding Officer.
"We're just very proud that they are here," said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard. "We encourage them and thank them for the work that they do to protect our freedom."
Colonel Carroll says people on base volunteer with the school system and civic organizations and the base is constantly finding ways to be more environmentally friendly.
