Albany Homeless Coalition reaches out

David Blackwell David Blackwell

Thanksgiving comes early for people living on the streets in Albany.

Hundreds of people lined up outside the Civic Center several hours before Project Homeless Connect began. The annual event gives meals, health screenings, clothing, and other benefits for the homeless and working poor in our community.

Organizers say the long lines show how important this event is with winter coming.

"That makes you so aware the community does have a need. We are so thankful these service providers set personal agendas aside, territorial lines aside and come together as a community and actually meet needs in this room today," said Albany-Dougherty Homeless Coalition Chair David Blackwell.

Blackwell believes the Homeless Coalition was able to help close to 600 people Tuesday morning.
