GSP investigates wreck injuring family and leaving two critical

Post 31 Troopers responded to a wreck that happened about 9:23 p.m. Saturday night on J. Frank Culpepper Road in Echols County. 

A black sedan driven by 25-year-old Filadelfo Martin Perez of Echols Co. was traveling north on the road. A blue pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Clifford Daniel Hadley of Live Oak, FL was traveling south at the time. The truck crossed into the northbound lane and struck the sedan on the front. Perez was unrestrained and ejected from the windshield.

Five helicopters arrived to the scene from Valdosta, Camilla, Perry, Lake City, and Jacksonville. Filadelfo Perez was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by ambulance and was confirmed to be in stable condition. Mario Rene Martin Perez was restrained at the time of the accident. He was flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL and confirmed to be in stable condition. 40-year-old Alberto Hernandez was unrestrained in the driver's rear passenger side. He was later flown to Shands Hospital and listed in critical condition. 35-year-old Reymundo Ramos Chilel was unrestrained in the rear passenger's side and flown from the scene to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He is confirmed to be in critical condition as well.

Two children, identified as 4-year-old Pedro Lopez and 6-year-old Justin Lopez were also unrestrained in the rear seat. Both children were flown to Shands Hospital and are confirmed to be in stable condition.

Hadley was also unrestrained at the time of the accident. He was transported to South Georgia Medical Center and confirmed to be in stable condition.

The air bags did deploy in both vehicles. Troopers said they suspect alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck. 

Charges will be pending upon completion of the investigation.
