Lea Henry said her team's 2nd half pace extended the gap
Ft. Benning's Dominique Gilbert impressed with 30 points and 9 boards
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
An up-tempo second half was key for the Lady Cavaliers in the second day of the 2015 Titans Classic.
The Darton State women's basketball team (5-0) defeated Ft. Benning 89-64 Saturday afternoon. Tyeshia Smith finished the game with 35 points and 12 rebounds after only scoring 11 in the first half.
The 5th win of the season was the toughest for the Lady Cavs. They needed all 17 of Tynicia McCoy's points en route to their smallest margin of victory on the season (25).
So far this year, the Lady Cavs have defeated opponents by 46.2 points per game. Head coach Lea Henry said the physical play of Ft. Benning is was shook her team up a bit early.
"First half we didn't handle it well," said Henry. "Second half we figured it out and we really got out and ran the ball more and got a good tempo. (Tyeshia) has been playing extremely well for us. She comes up with big baskets when we need them, she runs the floor, she has to guard the best player on the other team."
