LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Thursday night Lee County business leaders attended the 27th annual chamber of commerce dinner. It was a Hawaii-themed celebration.

Chamber director Director Winston Oxford says the Forrester Parkway project will create a new East to West route across the county, helping traffic and opening opportunities for major new retailers.

"800 to 1,000 households in that part of this region would be potential retail customers," said Oxford. "Not only in Dougherty county but in Lee county when these drive times are shortened."

The extension will run from where Forrester parkway ends near Publix, westward all the way to highway 82.

Chamber Banquet honorees:
Ambassador of the year: Jenny Lunsford
Partner in agriculture: Busy Elves Christmas Tree Farm
Non-Profit of the year: Sumter EMC Foundation
Partner in Education: Kiwanis Club of Lee County
Business of the year: Finnicum Motor Company
Woman of the year: April Reardon
Man of the year: Dr. Larry Walters
