LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Tuesday night, Lee County Commissioners approved a 49 home new development off Fussell Road near U.S. 82.  The homes will have a one acre minimum lot.

It's just a little over one mile from North Doublegate, where a 240 upscale townhouse development has been approved in the Oakland Development.

Lee County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Winston Oxford said, "Lee County fully expects to receive their plans for review before Thanksgiving.  And look forward to being under construction by January, February, March of this coming year."

Already under construction off Robert B Lee Road in Leesburg, Park Senior Village with 50 potential new homes. Developers putting cash on the line.

"It just proves that they are expecting new people to move to the area.  Not just people relocating from one location to another, but they are actually anticipating residential growth in this area," Oxford said.

Commercial investment is also seeing this growth, and officials say new businesses will follow.

"We've got a lot of exciting potential new commercial investment looking at us. And a lot of that has to do because of these new homes that you are talking about."

Homebuilders are showing they have confidence the economy in South Georgia is improving, and investing in new growth.

Lee County officials say they are working well with other surrounding counties, because they know area growth will benefit all the South Georgia region.
