TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Police are investigating the connection between two shootings in less than a week.

Two men are now in custody for a shooting near Charles Spencer Elementary School last Sunday, and investigators are working to figure out if they're responsible for another shooting Friday in the same area.

Officers said they received tips from reliable sources in the community that are helping them in the case.

The men are accused of shooting two victims who police refuse to name. And they say one of the shooting victims was shot again near the elementary school again Friday.

"We have a common victim in one of the shootings so we are looking at it from every option," said Dorminey McCrae with Tifton Police.

More than 20 shots were fired Friday, forcing the school into lockdown.

Police confirmed an assault rifle was used in Friday's shooting and they are looking for a shooter, but they did not release a description.

"If anyone that was in the area that may have heard anything or saw anything, please come forward and let us know," said McCrae. "Because you know the assistance is greatly appreciated."

Anyone with information is asked to call Tifton Police at 229-382-3132.
