It is alarming to hear that crimes against the elderly are increasing.
What is even more shocking is law enforcement agencies tell us in many cases it is a family member of the victim usually committing these crimes.
We are glad to hear Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards is wanting set up a task force to deal with this problem.
Edwards said "Try to obtain grant money for the purpose of developing a division that will deal primarily with victims of elder abuse and elderly crime."
What is even worse is many of these thefts are not even noticed.
Dougherty County Probate Judge Nancy Stephenson urges all elderly residents to have a professional review their financial records at least once a year.
If you or someone you may know think you are a victim of elder abuse, you can report elder abuse here at the Georgia Department of Human Services website.
