DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Residents in Douglas are being encouraged to help clean a waterway in town this weekend.

The Satilla Riverkeepers are cleaning a small tributary behind Ricketson Funeral Home in downtown this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Crews plan to split up and clean about a mile of the water and banks. Organizers say it's an important thing to do.

"Get out the trash, get out some of the pollution. Some of that, even though it's not a big river here in Douglas, it is a tributary so everything that hits that stream does end up in the '17'," said Kevin Davis from ESG Operations Inc.

Those who wish to volunteer can meet crews in the Ricketson Funeral Home parking lot.
