Fatal crash claims life of 2-year-old

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

According to Dougherty County police, there was a fatal accident around midnight on Sunday that claimed the life of a 2-year-old child.

The wreck happened at the intersection of North County Line Rd. and Sylvester Rd.

Reports state that 20-year-old Chelsea Lewis was heading down County Line Rd. and failed to yield at a stop sign. Her children Terrance Lewis, 2, and Major Thomas, 1, were also in the vehicle. The vehicle headed down Sylvester Rd. and then struck an 18-wheeler truck driven by 44-year-old Lonnie Williford.

Chelsea and Williford were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Thomas was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Terrance Lewis died at the scene.

Officials said charges are still pending for Chelsea.
