The South Central Georgia regional cheer championships were Saturday afternoon at Worth County high.
Worth County won region 1-4A, North Side/ Columbus won region 1-5A, Lee County won region 1-6A and the Fitzgerald girls won region 1-AA for the 14th straight year.
The competition consisted of each team doing 2 and a half minute routines on the mat.
Fitzgerald's cheer coach has never lost on this level in her 8 years as coach.
"It is not easy. every year we've got obstacles that come up," said Christy Jacobs. "And we had obstacles today, we had to make changes today, but these girls worked so hard. ever since they tried out in May, and made the team. They put the dedication in and they are the reason that we have 14 wins in a row."
Worth County's cheer coach Sue Youngblood has led her team for 39 years. Worth County won the event for the first time since the current seniors were freshmen.
"5 seniors have been special motivators, and they remembered what it was like to win it here in our place, but the whole team is very special," said Youngblood. "We talked a bit in warm-ups about Gideon warriors and what that meant to have that kind of confidence and that kind of certainty. You have 2 and a half minutes to hit it and you really have to take the floor."
All four region winners will dance their way to Columbus for the State finals next Saturday.
