COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

Road checks took place in Colquitt County Friday night.
At least 60 officers are took part in the Southwest Traffic Enforcement Network road checks.
They checked for impaired drivers, Insurance violations, and improper child restraints.

"Our fatality rate is way up and we're trying to get the drunks off the road to prevent the wrecks and reduce the fatality rate throughout the state,” said Bruce Womble, SWTEN.

1166 people have been killed in crashes on Georgia roads so far this year, that’s up 18% over last year.
Southwest Traffic Enforcement Network law enforcers hope to lower that number.
The Network will focus on Worth County next month.
