MEIGS, GA - Police say since the Meigs city clerk resigned, there's no one at the city office to take their payments. Residents will be forced to pay a lump sum covering all the bills once the position is filled. Police say that's hurting residents and the city.
Chief Gary Price said,"They would be getting a bill that's three times the amount that it normally would be, not because they didn't pay it but because there's no one to distribute the bill or no one there to collect the payment and you're talking about a person getting hit with a large bill at one time. It's not fair."
The chief says the people who have applied for the position so far are not qualified for the job.
