During a verification operation in Tift County, the Sheriff's Office checked all of the 50 homes of the registered sex offenders in the area. All of the offenders were where they were supposed to be.

Out of the 159 sheriff's offices in Georgia, 86 participated in the operation on Halloween.

Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough hopes that number will go up next year.

"It makes them feel safer and it makes us feel more comfortable about our kids out there gathered in large crowds out there like Halloween to know that we know where they are," said Sheriff Scarbrough.

The sheriff also said that his office conducts address verification on sex offenders each month.
