LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Officials urge motorists to slow down at a busy Lee County intersection as Construction Work is underway preparing to install a controversial traffic signal.
Traffic was slowed Tuesday on U.S. Highway 19 at Century Road, as utility workers relocated power lines.
Because of a number of crashes with deaths or serious injuries, many members of the community have long called for a traffic light at the intersection.
Leesburg City Manager Bob Alexander said "When you put up a new traffic light, for a while people need time to get used to it, or else they'll hit each other. So just want to advise everybody to take it slow while they are out there."
Georgia Department of Transportation officials say when the utility pole installation is complete, work can begin on installing the traffic light.
They are not sure when the project will be finished..
