ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany woman won a massive prize from the Georgia Lottery. Hannah Bane, 20, played the instant game Cherry, Orange & Lemon Tripler Cashword, winning a $125,000 top prize.
Thrift Food Mart, 2401 Brierwood Drive in Albany, sold the winning ticket. Bane claimed her prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.
The lucky winner said she purchased a Georgia Lottery ticket because a friend purchased the same instant ticket first.
Bane and her friend were ecstatic. "I thought it was $5,000," she recalled, realizing the amount of her winnings when she claimed her prize. "I started crying and everything. I'm happy, of course."
Bane intends to purchase a new house, a car, and she wants to enroll in college. "I want to do positive stuff with it," she said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
