The VPD Narcotics Unit received numerous complaints about narcotics and folks just hanging around at Ora Lee West Housing Authority. Before dawn Wednesday, Narcotics Detectives, the Power Squad, and Sheriff's Narcotics Detectives joined forces to conduct undercover surveillance.
They saw several narcotics transactions occurring at one of the apartments in the complex.
As they went in, Marvin Brown, 31, tried to run off, and threw several bags of narcotics on the ground, which detectives recovered. Brown was caught after a short foot chase.
They questioned Katherine Johnson, 30, and found marijuana, methamphetamine, and ecstasy. They also located Richard Treadwill, 25, in the apartment, with marijuana.
They were all taken to jail, where Brown was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of Alpha-PVP (Flakka) with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a housing project, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a park, and he had two active warrants.
Treadwell was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.
Johnson was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. Detectives and officers seized 28.4 grams of marijuana, 2.3 grams of Alpha-PVP, and .4 grams of marijuana.
Commander Leslie Manahan said, "This was a great effort between Narcotics Detectives with the police department and the Sheriff’s Department, along with Power Squad Officers to get these narcotics off the streets especially in an area that has many children and senior adults living in the area."
